Alternative Breaks

Alternative Breaks are immersive service experiences designed to introduce students to new communities while working to address pressing domestic and global social issues. Participating in an Alternative Break is a great way to get to know other students, make a positive impact, and have a meaningful fall or spring break!聽Check out this year’s programs and click on the links for each community partner to learn more:

One-Day Experience (October 7, 2023)

This fall, we are hosting a 1-day program that will take place on Saturday, October 7.

Animal Rights (Pittsboro, NC):聽We will spend an afternoon volunteering at 聽to support the organization’s mission of saving and protecting wild cats in captivity and in the wild.


Fall Break 2023 (October 12-14, 2023)

*Scholarships are available for all Fall Break programs

Food Justice (Asheville, NC): Engage in direct service聽with聽, , and 聽while learning about food insecurity in western North Carolina. Student fee is $150.

Environmental Sustainability (Wilmington, NC):聽Learn about the importance of land and water conservation by working with organizations like 聽and the . Student fee is $150.


Spring Break 2024

*Scholarships are available for all Spring Break programs

Community Development (Costa Rica) – March 23-30, 2024:聽Work with 聽to complete small construction projects in a small, rural Costa Rican community. Student fee is $1,500. This experience is full.

Refugee Resettlement & Support (Atlanta, GA) – March 24-30, 2024:聽Spend a week in Atlanta with the聽聽supporting their mission of creating opportunities for immigrants and refugees to integrate and thrive in Georgia communities. Student fee is $300.聽This experience is full.

Environmental Sustainability (Charleston, SC) – March 24-30, 2024:聽Engage in direct service with the , the 聽and other organizations to support sustainability and environmental justice efforts in Charleston. Student fee is $300.聽This experience is full.

Land Stewardship, Food Justice & Climate Action (Berkeley, CA) – March 25-31, 2024:聽This program, a collaboration with Elon Hillel and Hillel International, will work with , an educational and sustainable farm.聽 This experience will聽connect you with nature, explore earth-based Jewish practices and the contemporary food justice movement, and create opportunities for self-reflection and connection with others in a safe, supportive, inclusive environment.聽 Student fee is $1,300.聽 This experience is full.聽
